Network Analyst, Service Area Analysis, and Routing
Placement of Residential Treatment Center
Network Analyst: "ArcGIS Network Analyst provides network-based spatial analysis tools for solving complex routing problems." - ESRI
The map to the left was created by combining network analyst and other spatial analysis techniques. First tool used was service area analysis. Next, taxable values of single family homes within the service areas were examined to see if the hypothesis that Residential Treatment Centers tend to be located in lower value neighborhoods. Based on the final analysis, the hypothesis seems to be correct.

Service Area Analysis
"A network service area is a region that can be reached from a location within a given travel time or travel distance. Once service areas are created, you can use them to identify how much land, how many people, or how much of anything else is within the neighborhood or region."- ESRI
The image to the right was created using the network analyst tool, service area analysis. Knowing the WIC locations, I was able to create three service areas that included 0-10 walking distance.

Thiessen Polygon's
To create the elementary school feeder regions, I created Thiessen polygons. This tool is found in ArcGIS and is used to proportionally divide and distribute a point coverage into regions.
This tool is found in the ArcToolbox, under Analysis Tools, Proximity, Create Thiessen Polygon's

Route Analysis
"Find the quickest, shortest, or even the most scenic route depending on the value you choose to solve for. Routes can accumulate any number of cost values such as distance, time, slope, or other flow attributes. Solve for just two stop locations, or sequence many stops in the best order." - ESRI
For this analysis I had to add stops to the previous service area map. What this tool does is provide the most efficient method to visits each stop on the stops list without regard to the order.
