ANALYSIS 2: Geodatabses, Feature Dataset data storage and Spatial Analysis
To create a public transportation flood map I will be storing my data in a Geodatabase within Feature datasets. The data downloaded from Pierce County was: Flood Hazard Areas, Pierce Co. base map and Pierce County Public Transit. This data was added to my map as layers. I exported specific bodies of water from the attribute table and created a new layer. I then clipped the Public Transit to only show what is in Pierce County.
I then began my analysis to determine which public transportation routes will be most adversely affected by severe flooding in Pierce County. First, I dissolved the Public Transit Clipped layer to create single lengths for transit routes, which I then converted the length from feet to miles. Next, I overplayed the new dissolved routes to find where these routes intersected the flood areas. New lengths for effected roads are then given new lengths based on intersect. I was able to take new lengths and classify what the hazard percent was per routes impacted by flooding. I did this by dividing the miles by total length and multiplying by 100. I then changed the color ramp to be green to red to visually show which transit routes are impacted by color.
